ABBA comes to Leybourne on a sunny Saturday evening….

Around 1300 people turned out to see an amazing ABBA tribute act in the grounds of Leybourne Castle on Saturday evening.  Tickets for the 7th event of this type sold out in March.

The Castle was bathed in sun most of the evening (a huge relief after the storms the night before). The party started with picnics in the grounds accompanied by entertainment for the children by local resident, Chris the Magician (Chris Trollope).  Chris heroically stepped in at very short notice when the original entertainer called in sick.

The main attraction was the tribute band ABBA GOLD who performed with guests of all ages  rocking along.   Some came dressed for the occasion….

As in previous years, Roy Kitchener held the evening together with fantastic music between performances, so that everyone was ready to roll even before the headline act started.

Concert guests Heather and Laurence, when asked whether they were enjoying the event said they “took a chance on the weather; paid the money, money, money and …Mamma Mia! - had a great time!”.

The evening was run by the “Friends of Leybourne Church” and profits (estimated around £7,500) will go to  ongoing Church improvements.  The evening was made possible by the owners of the Castle – Val and Alan Albert – who yet again “donated” the use of their spectacular grounds. Kings Hill Rotary Club worked tirelessly through the evening ensuring the logistics, such as parking, ticket office and security, ran smoothly, in return for a donation which will also go to local charities.

Fr Matthew Buchan thanked everyone involved in planning and running the event and said “many people came up to me and said it was the best Church social they had ever been to!”.

Details of other upcoming FLC events will be published via the Church website as well as via Facebook, Leybourne Voice magazine and the KM community news section for Leybourne.
